HOUSTON – The Houston Polo Club is proud to present one of the most coveted trophies in the sport of polo -- The 106-year old United States Polo Association (USPA) Silver Cup. This year, the finals of the 2006 tournament, postponed due to wet weather, will take place on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at 11:00 am at International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida.
The two teams in contention for the coveted cup include John Goodman’s Isla Carroll (defending champions) and Lockton/Stanford with patrons Tim Kelly and Jay Comeaux. Playing for Isla Carroll include John Goodman (1), Jeff Blake (6), Jeff Hall (8) and Carlitos Galindo (1). On the Lockton/Stanford team the players are Tim Kelly (A) and Tim Kelly (A) splitting chukkers with Brandon Phillips (5), Roberto Gonzalez (6) and Todd Offen (5).
The final match of The 2006 USPA Silver Cup takes place on the #2 field at International Polo Club Palm Beach beginning at 11 am and precedes The Piaget Gold Cup finals schedule at 3 pm. Following the finals of the 106th USPA Silver Cup, a multitude of awards will be presented to players and ponies including the Ray M. Harrington Memorial trophy honoring the Most Valuable Professional Player in the tournament by player vote, and the Robert A “Bob” Uihlein Memorial Trophy recognizing the Most Valuable Amateur Player in the tournament, again by player vote.
